The Whole Enchilada

If I asked you what you thought were the greatest things Mexico has given to the world you'd probably think of nachos, Corona's and luxurious mustachio's, but you'd be wrong. Not because the things mentioned earlier aren't true, but because you forgot about the killer parties. And so we wonder... How do these beaners with no remorse for decency and proper etiquette achieve this? Simple... Killer Dj's.
So allow me to introduce you to Daniel Rockatansky aka D-ROCK. One of the freshest most promising Dj's in the land. He has trashed dance floors and broken  so many lady hearts that I stopped counting. This is one of his freshest sets. It goes by the name of Magnum and I hope you enjoy it, as much as the pope did.

ENJOY

Minimale Tech Mix

This post will be the third installment of my weekly mixes, and after scrapping a Deep House set, I've decided to go with an eclectic group of minimale techno tracks. The opening track is a release from Loco Dice, a former German hip hop DJ who now produces minimale and techno, Pimp Jackson is Talking. An extended narrative from an unknown New York rapper (sounds to me like Jay Z but I'm probably wrong about this) dominates the track, the opening lines of which "...this is some weird ass shit..." succinctly describes the bewildered attitude many of my American friends display when I play for them the music I listen.

Aside from Dice, the tracks that feature most prominently in the set are 2Quite and Something Suitable by Format: B. This German duo galvanized my interest in the minimale genre after I stumbled upon their 2008 LP, Steam Circuit. A combination of infectious rhythms, sonic simplicity and their signature dark, ominous and I'll have to admit at times creepy, vocals, Format: B consistently produce quality tracks that I find myself listening to over and over again.

Pimp Jackson is Talking Now - Loco Dice
I Want to Sleep - DJ Koze
Jack the Box - Funkwerkstatt
Something Suitable - Format: B
2Quite - Format: B
Fancy Girl - Lexy
After Dark - DJ T

Celebrate!

Hallo hallo Peeps!

As I mentioned last post, I'm heading to New York for the week so if you don't hear from me in the next few days, don't worry, I haven't died yet :D (By the way, the title illustration above is done by Tianzhou Chen. Check him out here).

Now tho, it's time to celebrate! Since I started using MediaFire exactly two months ago, I've already had 1000+ downloads. Heck yeah! That's not including songs posted by other contributors either. Not too shabby for an itty bitty bog like us, eh? So thanks to y'all who've followed me and taken the time to read my posts. You rock!

So meet Lykke Li. If you don't know her already, she's pretty popular, and no wonder! Her voice is AMAZING. I just can't get enough of the way she sings. It's definitely nothing like the hard stuff I post, but I promise she won't disappoint. (If you'd like something harder anyway, just scroll down to my previous post!)

It's Raining Albums (Pets Dance, Golden Traxe, Fists of God, Zombielicious and More)

Hallo hallo everybody!

I'm soooooo excited for this weekend--I'm headed to the big NYC. I'm staying at a friend's place and he's gonna show me around. Super awesome! Today tho, we'll talk about a few new albums and EPs.

I first heard the Thoughtless Hussies Remix of Pets Dance almost a year ago and have been eagerly awaiting the EP for what feels like twice as long. Although I still don't have the original version, there's a teaser track below plus a few remixes.

Tracklist
01. SPA - Pets Dance
02. SPA- Dumbo
03. SPA - Pets Dance (Bloody Beetroots Remix)
04. SPA - Pets Dance (Bloody Beetroots + Cecile Remix)
05. SPA - Pets Dance (Steve Aoki Remix)
06. SPA - Pets Dance (Le Petit Pilous Remix)

SPA - Pets Dance Teaser
SPA - Pets Dance (Thoughtless Hussies Remix)

Here's a really sweet song called Montreal Dreams. It's the result of a collaboration between SPA and Felix Cartal (can we say awesome combination?) so definitely give it a listen. Also, stay tuned because we'll talk more about Cartal later in the post.

If you like something a little softer, you should sign up for Barcardi's B-Live share program. They recently put out the Cicada/The Twelves paired remixes and now they've got a sweet new track from Groove Armada. If you'd like to sign up to receive more tracks like these, follow this link to the B-Live website. If not, just check out Groove Armada's new track, Go.

Groove Armada - Go

Shadow Dancer is coming out with an album, Golden Traxe, february 23rd. You may remember the first Shadow Dancer post I wrote, but if not, here's a link to the original post. It has a bunch of other Shadow Dancer tracks beside those below and the album teaser.

2. Soap
3. Infinite Lies
4. Walker
5. Goldan Traxe
6. Landlines
7. Drivetime
8. What Is Natural
9. Loader (Amazing Track! I could listen to it all day long)
10. Be Happy
11. Lower Left
12. The Bad Thing
13. This Is This

Golden Traxe - Preview

Shadow Dance is going on tour to promote the new album, so check their myspace to see if they're visiting somewhere near you.

So now onto Felix Cartal. I'm actually more partial to his older work but this new song, Beyond God to Elvis and Montreal Dreams (with SPA), are pretty good. So here it is and I'll throw in some of my old favs too just for fun.

From Monuments to Masses - Beyond God to Elvis (Felix Cartal Remix)
Mr. Miyagi - Pick Your Poison (Felix Cartal Remix)
Franz & Shape - Psichedelica
Felix Cartal - Moss v. Tree
Felix Cartal - Drugs
Felix Cartal - L'Amour

Currently Felix Cartal in on tour with MSTRKRFT, who have a new album, Fists of God, coming out March 17th. Personally when I've seen them live, I haven't found them terribly impressive but the track Fists of God is pretty good. I can't find a copy to give to you since MSTRKRFT have been really gung-ho about keeping everything under wraps. When I started to write this post yesterday you could still stream the title track, Fists of God, on hypem, but alas, now it is no where to be found.

Finally, Zombie Nation has a new album, Zombielicious, dropping in march. Check out his site and myspace. Here's three tracks from the album (Worth It, Forza and Filter Jerks) plus some classic stuff.

Worth It
Forza
Filter Jerks
Gizmode
Paeng Paeng
Kernkraft 4000 (CLASSIC!)

The Presets - This Boy's in Love (Zombie Nation Remix)

Proper Techno

Here's another short mix for your listening pleasure. This time I've gotten away from the lighter tech house sound and moved onto some proper heavy techno. The standout track in the mix is Arjuna Schiks award winning Afterbelle. Released in late 2008, Afterbelle is the opening track of an EP bearing the same. Arjuna composes wonderfully progressive tracks that truly push the boundaries of techno, challenging other artists to escape the often formulaic sound of the genre. The latter part of the mix is dominated by Pig & Dan, a duo responsible for some of the best big room techno around. They produce dynamic tracks, ones full of peaks and troughs that lift you out of this world and abruptly return you to reality. The intensity is matched with captivating melodies that make for all together fantastic club tracks. Enjoy.

Rainy Day Beats

Hey there,

Rain: Its weird in February, no? But this has nothing to do with rain, or spazzing kitties, or work, or anything really besides the love of beats that are just ever so jaw-dropping, ear-popping sweet. I thought, "everyone in the world should have these songs to listen to today" and so instead of studying I transformed into some kind of philanthropist and uploaded them:

$tunt$ (Flying Lotus Remix) - Mr. Oizo <3

Parisian Goldfish - Flying Lotus

What Up Y'all (Dirty Disco Youth Remix) - Crookers

Beyond God To Elvis (Felix Cartal Rmx) - From Monument To Masses <3

Melorec - Hardfloor

Serenity (Noob remix) - Popof

Enjoy!

Fresh, Tasty, Diynamic Beats

As requested by the rest of the crew at NslL, I've put together a short set of music from one of my favourite labels, Diynamic. With artists such as Stimming and H.O.S.H., Diynamic is garnering much deserved accolade from the dance music community. Stimming typifies the label's motif, orchestral sounds, live percussion (recorded and performed himself) mixed with driving, techy beats and tantalizing melodies. Diynamic is a progressive label, setting a high standard for techno, minimale, deep and tech house.

Diynamic Set

Just a heads up, Balance 014 was released today in Australia, to be followed by a February 14th release in Europe, I believe. Joris Voorn, best known for his remix of Robert Babicz's Dark Flower, is the creative force behind this new installment. A tracklist has been leaked and it's more than impressive; over 100 tracks spun over two dics. Voorn uses a variety of songs to create cohesive tracks, which he mixes from one to the next. Balance 014 will be the most complex mix Stomp has ever released, and I'm sure the most highly anticipated one to date.

Fun -> Work. Rinse, Repeat.

Yea so we all had a great time at Igloofest and whatever you did I'm sure it was awesome too. But now its time to get down to business, and for me that means getting my hands (and mind) deep n' dirrrty in some continental shizz.

Here's what's keeping me going...

Destination Pt. I - Damn Arms

Destination Pt. II - Damn Arms

In White Rooms - Booka Shade

Mandarine Girl - Booka Shade

Push (Tronik Youth Remix) - Shinichi Osawa

Washout (Mustard Pimp Remix) - Stereoheroes

Mirror Balls (Electrocker Bimborium Edit) - Stern

Yea yea I know not exactly the freshest beats on the block but you know what? I don't care; older stuff is generally better these days. Remember late '07? How come tunes like that don't come up much anymore? Oh well. Fuck it, lets go bowling. Or do essays. Whatever floats your boat.

Enjoy, and may the gods smile upon your works and say, "whoa that's totally rad!"
